To Be Good

It is sad but very true, to the best of all  intensions of any person no matter how much they try to be good it impossible for them to do so, no matter what vows, declarations, choices, groups or organizations they may join or commit to or people they may aspire to be like they will never be good, that is impossible.

Jesus was greeted by a man who called him, “good teacher” and Jesus declared, “Why do you call me good, there is only one who is good.”

I’m sure this man thought his grandmother was good, or someone he knew who he aspired to be like was deemed to be good in his thoughts, at least something that had established that estimation of calling Jesus good, something that was the basis of what he had learnt.

And therein lies the problem of humanity, if we evaluate ourselves by ourselves, we will always come short, but sadly we habitually do it.

It even gets worse because if you deem someone to be godly, on what basis do you make that assumption? On what understanding do you make that appraisal? It has to be in some way assessed by your understanding of what you know, I think of so many of our historic greats and how they fell, how they gathered huge followings around them, some wrote books and were invited to speak in foreign countries but yet there was something in them that wasn’t good and certainly not godly.

But I get ahead of myself, because I started with humanity at large and am now speaking to the church.

For a person to get saved there must be an understanding of the separation that exists that they have never been aware of or exposed to, the separation between God and man.

The separation exists because of a false belief that man can be good without Him who is good.

Without the true standard available to compare over time how do we know what the true standard ever was? We become subject to opinion or preference and those who are stronger in character and personality convince the rest that their assumption is true, so white becomes grey up becomes down and we all think it is good.

So, how can anyone know anything that is right, or anything that is true? Jesus said

Joh 6:44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

The only way we can ever right the wrong or correct the mistake is to bow the knee to humble ourselves, or confess to what we thought we knew, we never knew. To be subject to the only one who knows what it white and what is up, this is a reorientation of everything, let’s just call it a new beginning or a new birth.

To admit that I was wrong, and He is right and from that point our conviction comes from the promise given the prophet long before Jesus walked amongst men.

Jer 31:33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

Honestly, because there has and still is a lot of dishonesty out there. So honestly, we now are subject to Him and will be held accountable to Him, because as Jesus said, “there is only one who is good.”

So, for a person to be saved, there has to be a total reboot, a recalibration of everything, and for those, or for us who are saved an understanding that grey is still prevalent and influential and as God said to Cain.

Gen 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

To now know what is white and to accept the grey, is called sin, and your heart will convict you, but you must still make that choice.

A poverty spirit and a prosperity spirit exist, and I know where I want to be found, today choose the white, the good and walk in the blessing and covering of the one who is good.
