Rise Up

It seems to me that the church, or at least charismatic churches have been pursuing the presence of God, but not the presence as in knowing Scripturally or theologically but the presence of Him by feeling and experience, or maybe emotion.

At times I have been a participant in that, and at times an observer of it. Seeing mature Christians feeling down and out, coming to receiving something through prayer that seems to turn them around in an instant but sadly come next week they, for want of a better phrase seem to require another fix.

Last weeks sermon on John 14 hangs in my spirit, as I hear the phrase “If you have seen me you have seen the Father” what a declaration of the presence of the fullness of God, but as they say, “wait theres more” let’s read on,

Joh 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

So, Jesus declaration of Himself is now a declaration about us, a confidence and appointment the compares with Himself.

This is the church, a collective of Spirit filled, Father filled, and Son filled people who will manifest the glory of the Father as Jesus did when he walked on the earth. Guess what He doesn’t walk on the earth He’s seated at the right hand of the Father, it is us, we walk on the earth and if they see you they will see the Father, they will experience the presence of God through us.

This is what my Bible tells me about me, about you, about us. OH how I hope as a church we will be those who understand the life given and promised, not to be found in a poverty spirit that only comes from him who robs steals and destroys, because if we are found continually wanting that can only be attributed to our submission to him.

So, let’s make verses 14, 13 and 12 our plan

V14 To ask in His name, but ask for what?

V13 That He would be glorified through us, because of what?

V12 Because of the greater works we find ourselves doing.

So, let’s conclude with these verses.

Joh 14:19-20 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

My friends, “That Day” is today and in “That Day” is how we must find ourselves, “You in me and I in you.” This isn’t something that leaks, that diminishes, that needs replenishing it is constant and enduring it is who we are and how we must learn to live.

There was a campaign in the 90s called “Rise up together New Zealand” can I coin the phrase and say, church let us rise up and grab hold of the truth, let go of the lie that has been propagated in His church that we somehow need His presence, why? Because we have His presence, you might not feel it, but feelings don’t change the truth, rebuke the devourer in Jesus Name and rise up to be the person He has purposed you to be. Amen and Amen!
